TIMCA Challenge
& Maths Festival
Making maths fun - for the whole community
The TIMCA Maths Festival is a vibrant, week-long celebration designed to ignite a love for maths across the community. Through engaging workshops, family-friendly activities, and hands-on learning, the festival gets parents, teachers, and learners excited about maths — It’s not just about numbers in a classroom, but about curiosity, connection, and opening doors to brighter futures
The TIMCA Festival of Maths will be held in Harrismith between 4 and 11 October 2025.
The TIMCA Challenge
The TIMCA Challenge is the Comrades Marathon of Maths — a journey of training, teamwork, perseverance, and celebration. Learners rise to the challenge, push their limits, and go for the win — all while being cheered on by their community!
The highlight of the week-long festival is the TIMCA Challenge — a full-day event where teams of learners from local schools compete in a dynamic, visual, and fast-paced maths game.
Much like kids kick a football around for pure enjoyment, the TIMCA Challenge is aimed at making maths visible, social, and exciting enough that children want to ‘play’ it on their own. While many careers feel out of reach, this game brings real-world skills to life — letting kids experience the thrill of strategy, teamwork, and problem-solving, and discover just how capable they really are.
The Challenge is more than just a competition: it’s a platform to build both hard and soft skills that learners need for the future — from numeracy and critical thinking to communication, confidence, and collaboration. Along with songs, cheering, and celebrations from the crowd!
This year’s challenge: 11 October 2025
